S & S

Sareah was non-stop busy at the Abbotsford Bakers Market , so we briefly said hello, grabbed a few photos and tasted some DELICIOUS taste testers.
unnamed.jpg
1) What is your specialty?
Our specialties are making products that are made with clean ingredients, and are yuck free, as in no chemicals, fillers, hormones etc. We use as many organic ingredients as we can, and/or authentically natural. We specialize in gourmet food and bath/body products. For food our specialty right now is Marshmallows and Candied Pecans.
unnamed (2).jpg
2) Best Seller?
My best sellers at the market were: Sweet & Salty Candied Pecans, Mini Pavlova, Original Marshmallows and the Pumpkin Spiced Chocolate Dipped Marshmallows. 🙂
unnamed (1).jpg
3)How did this all happen?
The two S’s behind S&S are: Scarlett, my (almost) 3 year old daughter, and I am Sareah. We love to cook, bake and create many different things. When Scarlett was around a year, we started these hobbies as something fun to do and our love for it keeps growing. She loves to help me “make” as she calls it.
We first sold bath products and Candied Pecans at the Plaza Christmas Market at the Ramada last year. We were at my sister’s table. (She is Claire from Clairedy Cat & Co.) We almost completely sold out of the Candied Pecans. Then this last summer I sold homemade popsicles and marshmallows at a garage sale and they were a hit! So when I heard about this food market, it was very exciting to be invited to join the first Abbotsford Baker’s Market. Miranda and Raylene did an amazing job and it was a huge success!
We are having fun getting ourselves out there, taking custom orders and being at markets. We are very excited to have our own table (instead of sharing one, haha) this November at the Plaza Christmas Market at (what was the Ramada) Quality Hotel, hosted by the amazing Carol Larsen.

4)anything else you want to share with us?
My cousin Kim, inspired me to make marshmallows from scratch. I loved that it was a healthy alternative to store bought, knowing exactly what would be in the recipe and being able to have fun with flavours, without any junk.
We value you, and want to make it easy for everyone to find products that are enjoyable and guilt free, not having to worry about what you are feeding your kids, or what kind of chemicals or toxins you could be putting on your skin or in your body. We don’t want you to have to sacrifice health for joy. You can have both; and people tell us that they can taste and feel the difference. They don’t get that unpleasant feeling you can get from something like a store bought marshmallow or other sweets.
We are expanding our products and flavours all the time.We are excited to be on this path and share it with you.
And last but not least, a shout out to my Mom, Dad, Teanna, Claire and Scarlett for their support, help, ideas and talents that helped this all come together !

Legit Confections

NOTE* sorry! something is causing an error! so this post will be getting the kinks worked out ASAP!

Cassandra was so fun to meet at the Abbotsford Bakers Market. This was her first time selling in a more “legit” way and boy was she so happy with the results! she left the market sold out.

we are so thankful she took some time to share with us her company Legit Confections

1. what is your specialty?
Fudge! In a variety of classic and unique flavours.

2. best seller flavour?
Seems to be the classics- maple, chewy praline and chocolate

3. why did you start this company and how long have you been making fudge?

I have been making fudge personally for about 2-3 years but just started my company in the summer of this year. I was encouraged by family and friends to share my fudge at markets because they figured I would be good at it. I took a chance and have so far been enjoying it a lot.
take some time to check out her pages!

Scondalous Scones

We had the privilege of interviewing Tonia (and Jessa) at the Abbotsford Bakers Market.

Tonia makes delicious scones! I feel like if someone isn’t even into baked goods, they always love scones. The classic, sweet and savory that hits everyone’s tastebuds.20161002_120541

20161002_120701

Scondalous scones debut was at the Abbotsford Bakers Market, and we are so glad they shared with us! “The salted caramel scone was a best seller at the market” Tonia said. With a lot of the same reason’s as the other vendors, Tonia started Scondalous Scones through the push from her biggest fans, her family. ” My kids love my scones, and after eating them the common phrase is, why are we not rich?

Tonia came in with more than she felt was enough for the market, and went home with a small box!

Miranda from The Cookie Canister also asked Tonia to join the market, and we are all thankful for that nudge.

what is your favorite scone to make?

“Salted caramel is fun because it is a completely different recipe than the other scones.”

So there you have it, Scondalous Scones check them out!

Why did you start this?

Calebe loves dogs and has one dog named Bella. Calebe shared that “Bella is the best” and he isn’t sure why he started “Waggin tails”.

The Popcorn Bar

Now Lion was OBSESSED with this vendor and is already attempting to dream of a birthday party that incorporates this vendor we met.

So Feather and Mane would like to introduce The Popcorn Bar Sarita was the Visionary of this popcorn madness and along with her husband Tyler that now share Sarita’s obsession with popcorn to all who can find them.

What got us started in making and selling popcorn:

My complete and total obsession with popcorn!  I am a very passionate person and have had an ongoing urge to utilize my talents and passion in a way that made sense to me, even if that meant being unconventional.  So it started as a daydream, and one day I went for it – I started an Instagram account using inspiration from Pinterest, experimented with flavours with my mom and before we knew it, we were receiving orders via social media!

Best Selling Flavour:

We have a handful of best sellers as we find favourites differ based on what type of event we are at and where it is.  At the Abbotsford Baker’s Market, we sold out of Caramel Crunch (handcrafted, salted caramel) and our Pumpkin Spice blend so quickly!  Our top selling savoury flavour at the same market was Nirvana, our Indian Spice Blend.

fall1

What is unique about our popcorn vs. others:

First of all, I am convinced no one is as enthusiastic about popcorn as I am, so there’s that!  But really, our popcorn is absolutely and totally handcrafted from start to finish with no added preservatives, and we create very unique flavours that are very different than mass produced snacks.  Aside from our actual popcorn, we also provide event services as an interesting way bring fun and flavour to any event!

sprinkle

Something I love making:

I am very fond of making our Indian spice blend, Nirvana, as it brings out a bit of my dad’s heritage!  Out of the kitchen, I love creating custom labels for party favours.  The presentation always adds to the quality of the product!

Well if you aren’t convinced about the passion Sarita has for popcorn after this post, than nothing will convince you! We were very excited to talk with Sarita and hopefully we will collaborate with her in the future.

We asked her a few questions on how this all happened

When did you start Battersup Cupcakes and Sweet?

“In March 2015 I started this company” Ange explains I have been baking for friends and family for years and just challenging myself more each time.  Last February I was asked to make mini mouse cupcakes for my girlfriends little girls first birthday. Of course I did and when people saw and tasted them they were on me again to start this as a side business. After talking it over with my husband we decided to start up an Instagram/facebook account and see where it goes. Well I have been non stop busy ever since!! Abbotsford bakers market was only my second market and sold out at both. It’s so nice to have people coming back for my baked goods.”

Why kind of baked goods do you make?

“Currently I make cupcakes (standard & mini) in a wide selection of flavours and special orders. Mini whoopie pies ( mini cookies with buttercream sandwich between them). And baked donuts!!! I will be adding new sweets to my menu come the new year! “

20161002_125243

Favorite thing to make?

“That’s a tough one because I just LOVE to bake. But right now I think it’s coming up with different flavours for my fancy donuts. And of course the S’more cupcakes. “

Best seller?

Best sellers are by far the S’more and turtle cupcakes. With a closer runner up being the mini Peanut Butter cookies! “

Abbotsford Bakers Market

My sister and I had the wonderful privilege of getting front row seats to all the action at the Abbotsford Bakers Market this weekend.

14551110_10157508926510405_1992332271_o

I am an huge fan of Markets. I love Farmers markets, Christmas markets, craft markets, and today I found out that I LOVE Bakers markets. The passion and enthusiasm that we found at each one of those booths is contagious and makes me want to dig out my recipe book and find some sort of treat I can share with the world. But I think the fact that I am not sharing with the world any of my baking, is treat enough.

14550741_10157508925540405_1745580672_o

Each vendor at this market had their own unique story of what lead them to starting their own shop. We had the fantastic task of getting to know a little of each booth’s background and over the next few weeks we will be sharing their stories on our blog. So tune in over the course of the month to find out more about who we met and what delicious snacks you could be eating right now.

14522256_10157508925390405_1603005483_o

Until then, I will leave you with this tantalizing thought. Marshmallows and bacon, curried popcorn, mini apple pies, pumpkin spice fudge, and earl grey scones. Lets just say I skipped lunch, for the week.
